Case Study #5: Data Quality Assessment Tool

The Fixed Income & Risk trading desk of the Asset Management arm of a tier-1 investment bank required a means to assess and correct the quality of data imported from a variety of market data vendors (Bloomberg, CitiGroup, Lehman, etc).

Architecture of Data Quality Assessment Tool Solution

A web-based data quality assessment tool was developed in conjunction with the business users to ensure the provision of a high-quality, truly usable solution.

Implemented using Java J2EE (JavaServer Pages, Servlets, JDBC, XML), Struts, XHTML, CSS, and Sybase T-SQL, the project was a great success and provided a sophisticated data analysis and quality assurance tool. Functionally, the tool afforded the ability to run data checks in batch mode or interactively; filterable and sortable data quality results and the ability to fix data quality issues immediately through the interface. As a result of the provision of this solution, the market data - as used by the business - was both more accurate and made available in a more timely manner.
